On February 5, 2026, Fraser Fontaine & Kong (FFK) hosted its Parametric Insurance Seminar, bringing together Jamaican business leaders, international insurance markets, and global risk experts to examine how parametric insurance is being used to support faster recovery and financial continuity following major weather events.
Held in collaboration with Lockton, the seminar formed part of FFK’s continued efforts to build financial resilience among Jamaican businesses by pairing traditional insurance with innovative risk solutions tailored to local realities.
The session opened with remarks from Renee Moncrieffe, Head of Marketing at FFK, followed by global insights from Lockton on how parametric insurance is being applied internationally to address climate volatility. The discussion then shifted to the Jamaican context, with Gerard Fontaine, President of FFK, outlining the increasing pressure businesses face after major weather events and the importance of liquidity in the days and weeks following disruption.
A central feature of the seminar was the presentation of real Jamaican case studies demonstrating parametric insurance in action. Attendees heard directly from Stephen Steele, CEO of iPrint, who shared his experience navigating Hurricane Melisa with parametric insurance in place. His testimonial highlighted how predefined triggers enabled a rapid payout, supporting cash flow and business continuity during a critical period.
The session also featured the experience of Wayne Williams, CEO of Couples Resorts, who reflected on how parametric insurance supported operational stability following a major weather event. Together, these case studies illustrated how parametric insurance has already been working within the Jamaican market as part of broader risk management strategies.
The seminar concluded with a panel discussion and audience Q&A involving representatives from leading international insurance and reinsurance markets, including BHSI, Liberty Mutual, Munich Re, Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, and Descartes. These markets underpin parametric solutions by providing the capacity and financial backing that enable rapid payouts once policy triggers are met.
Throughout the seminar, FFK’s leadership emphasized that parametric insurance is not a replacement for traditional coverage, but a strategic layer designed to reduce recovery time and strengthen decision-making. Under the stewardship of Martine Fontaine, FFK has been intentionally structuring parametric solutions for Jamaican conditions, backed by A-rated international markets and aligned with the realities local businesses face.
As climate change continues to drive more frequent and severe weather events, the need for innovative risk The seminar reinforced FFK’s ongoing commitment to delivering practical, forward-thinking risk solutions that help Jamaican businesses prepare for, respond to, and recover from an increasingly volatile climate environment.
